NICHE STATEMENT BUILDER
Write your niche statement.Get from “I teach guitar” to something people recognize themselves in
A niche statement says who you help, at what level, to do what, and how. It’s the sentence that makes the right people say “that’s me.” Fill in the blanks below and we’ll write a few versions for you.
Why “I teach guitar” isn’t enough
“I teach guitar” describes thousands of people. It doesn’t tell anyone why they should learn from you. A good niche statement answers four questions: who exactly, at what level, to do what, and how you’ll teach them. Add what they can skip, and you’re memorable.
| Instead of… | Try something like… |
|---|---|
| I teach guitar. | I help adults over 50 who’ve never played learn their first five songs in eight weeks, through short weekly video lessons, without reading music. |
| I know about gardening. | I help new homeowners grow vegetables in heavy clay soil without a tiller, through a monthly hands-on class at the library. |
| I could do consulting. | With 30 years in hospital operations, I help small clinics cut patient wait times through a fixed-price two-week review. |
| I can sew. | I help returning sewists make clothes that fit, using vintage techniques, through a members’ community with monthly sew-alongs. |
| I was a teacher. | I help first-year middle-school teachers manage a classroom with confidence, through a weekly newsletter and a summer workshop. |
| I bake bread. | I help busy home bakers make their first real sourdough loaf in a weekend, through a short online course, with no fancy equipment. |

Make it sharper
A good statement has
- Who is a person you could picture, not “everyone”
- What is a result someone would pay for or brag about
- How matches the way you like to explain things
- Skip removes a fear that keeps people from starting
- Read it out loud. If it takes more than one breath, trim it.
